This service provides temporary shelter to children with a high degree of physical disability, cerebral palsy, or dual disability. Temporary shelter is provided for a maximum period of three months as a result of unforeseen circumstances within the family. Sheltered Care includes medical, psychological, entertainment,  and physiotherapy services.

Admission Requirements

  • Must be a Bahraini Citizen.
  • To be identified as physically disabled or with cerebral palsy or double disability.
  • Must not be less than 4 years old and not above 20 years, especially males.
  • Must be free of infectious or contagious diseases.
  • Medical reports and the social & psychological researches must prove his/her need for physiotherapy.
  • Has no guardian.

Acceptance Procedures

  1. Applications can be submitted in person or by any family member, relative or guardian.
  2. Receive the transferred request letter from the following parties within Ministry of Social Development (MOSD):
    • The Head of the Center.
    • The Social Researcher.
  3. Social researcher ensures the acceptance of admission requirements.
  4. Schedule an appointment to conduct social research at home.
  5. Prepare a report on the visit and raise it to the head of the Center.
  6. Approve the validity of the request.
  7. Contact the guardian to brief him/her on the acceptance procedures and regulations of the Center.
  8. Fill out a family commitment form.
  9. Prepare the request file.
  10. Receive the request, the smart card, and the used medication.
  11. Conduct the required medical examinations to accept the request.
  12. Social research supervisor to follow up with the request in terms of health and living in the Center by contacting:
    • The Nurse.
    • The Social Rehabilitation Technician (Nursing Aide).
    • The family to inform them about any updates regarding the resident status.

In case the request for temporary shelter was repeated, the procedures are limited to

  1. Receive the transferred request letter from the ministry, or the head of the Center, or from the social researcher.
  2. Fill the family commitment form and prepare the request file with following documents - Copy of child's Smart card, Medication Required, Period of Child's stay in the Center.
  3. Social research supervisor to follow up with the request in terms of health and living in the Center by contacting:
  • The Nurse.
  • Social Rehabilitation Technician (Nursing Aide).
  • The family, to inform them about any updates regarding the resident status.

Required Documents

  • Medical Report certified by the concerned authority determining the type and degree of disability in Arabic language.
  • Vaccination Certificate.
  • Birth Certificate.
  • A copy of the smart card of the child.
  • A recent photo of the child.
  • Previous Educational Certificates (if any).
