Over the past 25 years, the Kingdom of Bahrain has achieved historic milestones and made significant progress in political, economic, social, cultural, youth, and sports sectors. These accomplishments have consolidated Bahrain's advanced position regionally and globally.
His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa laid the foundations for comprehensive development, beginning with the National Action Charter. This led to remarkable advancements in various domains, always focusing on Bahraini citizens and their aspirations.
His Majesty the King places great importance on the sports sector and athletes as a priority in the national agenda. This vital sector has seen historic achievements that have elevated Bahrain’s sporting status on the global stage. The Kingdom has proudly won 6,893 medals, including 2,378 gold, 2,077 silver, and 2,438 bronze, with the national flag flying high at numerous events.
Notable achievements in this sector include the establishment of the first women’s football team in the GCC, the founding of the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation in 2003, the inauguration of the Bahrain International Circuit Bahrain International Circuit and the hosting of the Bahrain Grand Prix (Formula 1) in 2004, and the inauguration of Khalifa Sports City Stadium in 2007. In 2010, the Sports Leave Law was enacted, followed by the development of Isa Sports City in 2011.
In 2015, Bahrain hosted the first Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship in a GCC state, and in 2017, the Bahraini Paralympic Committee was established. The "Istijaba" program was launched in 2018, followed by the Gold Bank project and the Electronic Sports Museum project in 2020. The year 2021 saw the issuance of the Sports Professionalism Law (Arabic only) and the establishment of the General Sports Authority.
The Kingdom continues to make strides in the sports sector, which is among the sectors receiving full attention, care, and encouragement. This comprehensive support enhances the capabilities of national sports teams representing "Team Bahrain" in achieving victories and standing on podiums at global events.
